Devotion to Señor Santo Niño
SEÑOR SANTO NIÑO DE CEBU
17 January
The devotion to the Santo Niño (Holy Child) is the oldest and one of the most popular in the Philippines. For Filipino Catholics, the Holy Child represents a God who is accessible to all and can be approached without fear. (G. Diwa, Supplement to the Liturgy of the Hours for the Dioceses in the Phils.)
Devotion to the Holy Child is widespread not only in the Philippines but in some other parts of the globe – in Spain, Mexico, and Peru. In Mexico, its most popular title is El Sto. Nino de Atocha. In Rome, it is Sto. Bambino di Ara Coeli. A famous pilgrimage site is the Shrine of Infant Jesus of Prague in the Czech Republic.
PRAYER
O Miraculous Santo Niño, prostrate before your sacred image we beseech you to cast a merciful look on our troubled hearts. Let your tender love so inclined to pity be softened at our prayers and grant us that grace for which we ardently implore you. Take from us all unbearable affliction and despair. For your sacred infancy sake hear our prayers and send us consolation and aid that we may praise you with the father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
Señor Santo Niño, receive our petitions!
